Terminology used in RFLC
|
|
Assistant Editor: deputises for the chief editor and
has a special responsibility for coordinating the import of bulk
data into RFLC.
|

Chief Editor: the highest level content
administrator for the Rural Finance Learning Centre.
|

|
Chief Editor's Choice: the chief editor may mark any
knowledge object or news item as "Chief Editor's Choice" if he or
she thinks that it is of a particular high quality or of special
topical importance. Knowledge objects so marked will be displayed
with two stars.

|
Discussion: RFLC members may suggest adding details
of an existing electronic discussion list or suggest the creation
of a discussion within the RFLC.

|
Editor's Choice: an editor may mark any knowledge
object within his or her topic as "Editor's Choice" if he or she
thinks that it is of a particular high quality or of special
topical importance. Knowledge objects so marked will be displayed
with one star.

|
Event: a type of knowledge object submitted to a
topic by a registered member or added and/or uploaded by the topic
editor or chief editor. An event may be a conference, training
event, meeting, virtual meeting, workshop or staff exchange
programme relevant to the worldview.

|
Inbox: part of the my info section
of RFLC that comprises a list of items awaiting editor action or
notification of editorial action taken on items that a member
submits for review.

|
Knowledge Objects: any data in any format that can
be uploaded to the Rural Finance Learning Centre Community
Directory Server (CDS); entered into the RFLC CDS via suggest/add
forms (e.g., documents, contacts, multimedia, news, events) or
linked to the RFLC CDS (e.g., websites). Knowledge Objects (KOs)
can only be submitted by registered members.

Linked Topic: a linked topic appears in the list of
subtopics, with an "@" after the title to distinguish it from
actual subtopics. A linked topic is actually a subtopic elsewhere
in the system. A linked topic is extremely relevant to the current
topic

Member: users may use the system anonymously or they
can register and gain a RFLC member password. A registered member
can participate in discussions and submit items to be added to
RFLC.

|
Member Group: a group of RFLC members; any
permissions assigned to a member group apply to all members of that
group. This is used to restrict or control access to certain
topics.

|
News: a type of Knowledge Object submitted to the
News gateway by a registered member or added and uploaded by the
topic editor or chief editor.
|

|
Ontology: a vocabulary of terms and some
specification of their meaning. RFLC has used a loosely constructed
ontology to provide keywords to be attached to the knowledge in the
system.

|
Parent Topic: the connected topic one level up in
the hierarchy from the current topic. A topic may only have one
parent topic.
|
 |
|
Permissions: a permission dictates the action that
may be executed on a topic. Examples of Permissions include: read
only; submit knowledge; edit; and delete.

|
Subtopic: equivalent to a sub-category and comprises
a connected topic one level down from the current topic. A topic
may have many subtopics.
|

|
Topic: equivalent to a subject category and
comprises a grouping of knowledge within a specific subject
area.
|

|
Topic Editor: a registered member of the RFLC who
has been selected by the CABFIN partnership to act as a content
administrator for a particular topic and/or topic tree.

|
Topic Tree: a topic and its subtopics and their
subtopics, etc., etc.
|
 |
|
Worldview: a gateway entry that provides an access
route to the information in the RFLC. Worldviews include: training,
resources, news, discussions and contacts.
